Repairs, repairs, refund and new laptop

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

At the start of last month I posted that my laptop was back in for repairs and that was only the start of a lot of problems. I got the laptop back a week later and it hadn’t been fixed so I sent it back in for repairs, again. After another week and a bit had passed I got it back again. I didn’t really want to believe what I saw. They had fixed the fan, and broken the quick launch buttons in the process. Needless to say it was getting quite annoying and I went back to the shop to complain about the work of their repair place.

Thankfully they understood that this was getting ridiculous and put in a request with the manufacturer that I should be able to cancel the initial purchase and get my money back. After yet another week’s worth of waiting it came through. I got a full refund on my laptop. Wow. Despite all the hassle and waiting it turned out better than I could have hoped for in the end. Thumbs up to the shop as it’s not their fault the manufacturer licensed repair shop kept messing me about. The customer support I got was very good at least.

It was time to get a new laptop. Of course the one I wanted was not in stock so I had to wait yet a bit longer until I had a laptop I could use. What I now have is a lot better and can run WoW on significantly higher settings, which is great. Although in the midst of all this I am now getting ready to head over to the UK again for a while so there won’t be any updates here until I’ve gotten settled in there.

By the end of next week I hope to have a post or two ready! It’s time for more guides to healing in ICC and I’ll be working on those next week!

Why I play this game

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Some days you play wow you feel surrounded by idiots in every PuG you go to and you ask yourself, why am I bothering? Or you’ve had a crap day and wonder if it’s even worth logging on. If you only get annoyed, end up not enjoying it when playing, what is it that keeps you coming back? It could be addiction, a lot of people suffer from it, unfortunately. It could be the lack of something else to do and the will to do something about it or it could be that you enjoy seeing yourself as better than others and need the confidence boost it might give you. There are plenty of reasons.

I personally play this game for a different reason: the people I play with who makes the experience so much better. I’ve gotten some good friends in the game, some of them I knew before I ventured into the world that is computer games and some of them I’ve gotten to know via the game. I think what happened this week proves as a good example why it’s the people that make it worth while.

Oh, the irony..

Monday, April 5th, 2010

So I’m plodding around on a lower level alt doing some quests and Sylvaine there offers to take my alt through Magister’s Terrace, which happens to be one of my favourite instances. Who would say no to some fun in a favourite instance? Well, I think I might have had I predicted the outcome…

Back in December I made a very happy post that I’d finally gotten my Swift White Hawkstrider after months of grinding for it. Before we went in I jokingly said that mount better not drop. Anybody want to guess what happened in the Magister’s Terrace run I had earlier? Yup, the mount dropped, on my baby alt’s first trip to the heroic version of the dungeon. I couldn’t believe it. After an epic roll of 7 it appeared in my bags mocking me. Thankfully, after 15 minutes of intense persuasion, Sylvaine accepted his nice new shiny mount. Grats to him. But the irony, oh the irony… sigh…

’tis broken :(

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Ok, I admit. I play WoW on a laptop! A couple of weeks ago, however, the laptop was getting increasingly confused. It made repeated attempts at taking off like any other air plane and I’ll give it credit for sounding like one. As you might guess, a trip to the PC hospital was in order! After a week and a half it is still spending lazy days at the hands of skilled doctors. It was certainly a better idea than me pretending to have half a clue and open it up only to probably have over half the bits as spare parts afterwards… I have had a couple of post cards to say all is well and that he will be home again soon!

As I can’t play wow, I have decided it’s time to learn how to get around Adobe Illustrator, which is where I have spent most of my week. A friend poked me to draw Rebella while at it so I figured I should post an update and include it as surely all posts should have an image!

Something went wrong somewhere!

Thankfully drawing is not what I plan to use Illustrator for!

“New” look

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

As some of you may have noticed I enjoy tinkering with the blog layout. I’ve just updated the look of the header and footer, so if the site still looks the same as before make sure you force a refresh (Ctrl+f5) to see the updates!

A new experience

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

It all started with me deciding I needed some screen shots of my priest healing for some future blog posts, and because my laptop certainly cannot cope with Dalaran or any other highly populated area on anything near max settings for proper screen shots I had to head off elsewhere. My quest for finding a pretty background for my screen shots sent me to Netherstorm, one of my favourite areas (yes, I know it’s pink and purple, but I’m girl so I’m allowed to like it :P ).

After getting a few screen shots I decided I may as well get some of my shaman as well for the same purpose. I changed my settings to get better quality screen shots, started removing NPC names etc and ended up completely hiding my UI, zooming in completely and flying around.

Introducing the Bear

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

The Bear actually has a name, but it more fun referring to him as the Bear so I will probably continue to do so, although he looks more like a lion than a bear. He will probably try to hunt me down for saying that, perhaps it’s time to change my name and move elsewhere so he is less likely to find me… Oh, time to get back on topic!

So yeah, back to introducing the Bear. He is a good friend of mine and also a guildie and I asked him a while ago if he’d like to post occasionally on my blog, which probably made him look funny at the suggestion staring him in the face on his screen. However, I was quite pleased when he randomly let me know that he has changed his mind; he saw something he wanted to post. The intention here is mostly that he will have a place to post if he so wishes without having to do anything even half regularly. His first post, which is probably due in a couple of days, will illustrate this better.

So without further ado I give you…. THE BEAR!

How is this for a cryptic uninformative post? :D

Lich King cut scene

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Ok, I really need to stop clicking random things I have no idea what are. Today I spotted the new fancy statue in Dalaran and decided to click the information to see what it was about. Suddenly the screen went back and I was waiting for the unpleasant critical error information. However, I was quite stunned to see that I hadn’t crashed at all, in fact I found myself watching the latest cut scene!

I was wondering why I hadn’t heard any of this as I am generally the very last person to find out about exciting new things. After commenting on it in game it became apparent that I was certainly not the last to discover this and as a few seemed surprised I thought it was worth posting about as it’s not something anybody would want to miss out on. From what I gathered, it becomes available after the first Lich King kill on the server. It is really quite good, I thought.

Oh, the lag!

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

The past few evenings the lag on our server has been ridiculous. Everything seems to take forever, and it is completely random. It is generally between 7pm and 9pm CET it is at its worst. I’ve experienced a few weird things related to lag, but nothing even comes close to what I experienced this evening.

I was randomly running around one of my low level alts in Hinterlands. Not been too interested in killing anybody to complete the quest that asks you to explore Altar of Zul, I ran to the top and quickly back down again, although the lag wasn’t making it particularly easy to lose aggro, not to mention trying to move, so well back down at the bottom I died. The release option appeared right away and that’s where normality ends.

Mountain o’ mounts

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Well, I hadn’t really planned on updating because I’m not feeling well, but now I just can’t help myself. The couple of heroics Rebella did turned out quite a lot better than I could have hoped for. A new mounts and an achievement I’ve been working on for months.

Blue Proto-Drake

We decided to go to Utgarde Pinnacle, just in case the mount would drop today. A couple of my friends wanted emblems anyway. So, we queued up and low and behold… we were suddenly in ToC! Group leading isn’t always easy when it suddenly comes to selecting a specific dungeon, lol. Maybe someone misunderstood a mount run for a mounted run? It was a minor distraction anyway. On second try we did end up in Utgarde Pinnacle and after Skadi randomly reset himself three times he finally hung around long enough so we could kill him. And it actually dropped! I’d already seen it drop a few times and finally it was mine. I couldn’t believe my luck! And it didn’t end there…
