Repairs, repairs, refund and new laptop

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

At the start of last month I posted that my laptop was back in for repairs and that was only the start of a lot of problems. I got the laptop back a week later and it hadn’t been fixed so I sent it back in for repairs, again. After another week and a bit had passed I got it back again. I didn’t really want to believe what I saw. They had fixed the fan, and broken the quick launch buttons in the process. Needless to say it was getting quite annoying and I went back to the shop to complain about the work of their repair place.

Thankfully they understood that this was getting ridiculous and put in a request with the manufacturer that I should be able to cancel the initial purchase and get my money back. After yet another week’s worth of waiting it came through. I got a full refund on my laptop. Wow. Despite all the hassle and waiting it turned out better than I could have hoped for in the end. Thumbs up to the shop as it’s not their fault the manufacturer licensed repair shop kept messing me about. The customer support I got was very good at least.

It was time to get a new laptop. Of course the one I wanted was not in stock so I had to wait yet a bit longer until I had a laptop I could use. What I now have is a lot better and can run WoW on significantly higher settings, which is great. Although in the midst of all this I am now getting ready to head over to the UK again for a while so there won’t be any updates here until I’ve gotten settled in there.

By the end of next week I hope to have a post or two ready! It’s time for more guides to healing in ICC and I’ll be working on those next week!

Why I play this game

Some days you play wow you feel surrounded by idiots in every PuG you go to and you ask yourself, why am I bothering? Or you’ve had a crap day and wonder if it’s even worth logging on. If you only get annoyed, end up not enjoying it when playing, what is it that keeps you coming back? It could be addiction, a lot of people suffer from it, unfortunately. It could be the lack of something else to do and the will to do something about it or it could be that you enjoy seeing yourself as better than others and need the confidence boost it might give you. There are plenty of reasons.

I personally play this game for a different reason: the people I play with who makes the experience so much better. I’ve gotten some good friends in the game, some of them I knew before I ventured into the world that is computer games and some of them I’ve gotten to know via the game. I think what happened this week proves as a good example why it’s the people that make it worth while.

’tis broken :(

Ok, I admit. I play WoW on a laptop! A couple of weeks ago, however, the laptop was getting increasingly confused. It made repeated attempts at taking off like any other air plane and I’ll give it credit for sounding like one. As you might guess, a trip to the PC hospital was in order! After a week and a half it is still spending lazy days at the hands of skilled doctors. It was certainly a better idea than me pretending to have half a clue and open it up only to probably have over half the bits as spare parts afterwards… I have had a couple of post cards to say all is well and that he will be home again soon!

As I can’t play wow, I have decided it’s time to learn how to get around Adobe Illustrator, which is where I have spent most of my week. A friend poked me to draw Rebella while at it so I figured I should post an update and include it as surely all posts should have an image!

Something went wrong somewhere!

Thankfully drawing is not what I plan to use Illustrator for!
