Gearing up

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Jumping straight into high end raiding at level 80 might not be a good idea. First of all you are likely get laughed at trying to get into a raid the day you reach level 80 and have a mix of blue and green quality gear. Secondly you are likely to not have experience anywhere near what would be required for raid healing, but that is for another chapter of these series. Let’s concentrate on gearing up and getting ready first. There are crafted gear, emblem gear and instance drops available which are all fairly easily obtainable and should get you geared quickly. Let’s have a closer look at what is available then. But first let’s make sure our spec and abilities are good to go.

When item level means more than stats

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Item level has become increasingly important to some people when they decide on what’s an upgrade or not for their current gear. People will roll on drops in instances merely because of a number being higher that has nothing to do with how the stats on said item compares with what the person is currently wearing. Except of course they may see the item level itself as a stat and the higher this number gets the better their gear is…

Research gear upgrades

Friday, January 8th, 2010

As always with new dungeons and raids, like new Icecrown Citadel wing this week, there are plenty of new bits of shiny loot people are dying to get their hands on, especially in pugs.  Sometimes it is not easy to see what is an upgrade and how much of an upgrade said item would be especially now in WotLK where there are so many stats to consider.

Organised lists and how to find upgrades

Hmm.. What will Loken drop today?Although organised list are far from necessary, they may help you keep track of what items you are after, how big an upgrade they are and most importantly: where they drop! There are many ways of making lists and one would be to index it in item slots and list upgrades per slot together. A different approach would be to write it up as items per boss or dungeon. One of the first things to do is find out what items different bosses drop. Wowhead is a great resource where you can find practically all the information you need. Once you’ve found out what loot drops you should compare it to your current gear. With all the different stats available it can often be difficult to decide on what stat to prioritise.

LFG revamped with 3.3

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Patch 3.3 introduced a cross realm dungeon finder and added looking for raid (LFR) as a separate feature. Although there are some nice changes added with LFR, the LFG has undertaken the biggest changes and this is what I will be focusing on here.

The eye to the left still looks as creepy as before

The first obvious change stares back at you as soon as you open the LFG window. It looks completely different. Not only is it prettier and more colourful, but it has all the information you need in one window and completely removes the random browsing. Either you want to go to a dungeon or your don’t. At the top of the window you select which role(s) you want to go as and have the appropriate spec for. Below it is a drop down window that lets you choose either a random or a specific dungeon (either normal or heroic). Enter the find group queue and you’re all set to go! It doesn’t even have to send you into a random group, you can just make the group with friends or using the LFG channel in a city and then use the LFG tool to get portalled in a random or specific dungeon! Awesome!
